The U-32 Middle School provides middle school students with a nurturing climate to assist in making the transition from elementary school to the high school. Each student is assigned to one of the core instructional teams (Zenith, Apex or Pinnacle). Each core team consists of four teachers: an English, social studies and science teacher, and a special educator. A math teacher is also assigned to each core, but due to grouping in math, each math teacher may teach students from all core teams.
The U-32 learning community will be working with a semester schedule for the 2008-2009 school year. This will have a limited impact on the middle school daily schedule, but it does mean we will have four marking periods (quarters) and specials (off-core) classes will rotate on a quarterly basis. The bigger change will be in the personnel make-up of the three teaching cores. Here are the core teaching assignments for the upcoming year:

Each of the new teams has at least two teachers from the 2007-2008 school year in order to reap the educational benefits of looping (staying with the same teachers for 7th & 8th grade). We have arranged our new core teams to best meet the needs of all of our students.
Here is a description of a typical eighth grade school day. The school day begins at 8:00 with TA. Following TA, students will have two one-hour long bands. In one of these two bands, students will receive their math instruction. In the other band, students will receive instruction in PE and Foreign Language or Reading on an every-other-day rotating basis (blue & white days) for the entire school year. Following these two one-hour bands are the Middle School 3, 4, 5 blocks. One of these three 40-minute bands is reserved for lunch. The other two 3, 4, 5 blocks will be filled with electives. After the 3, 4, 5 bands, all eighth grade students will report to their two-hour academic core block where students will receive instruction in the areas of Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. The school day ends at 2:35.
Seventh grade day is reversed. TA is 8:00-8:10, core team is 8:15-10:30, lunch/electives (3 bands, 40 minutes each). then math or PE/Foreign Language (2 bands, 55 minutes each.)
